About Me

Hello Everyone,

I starting baking and cooking when I was 5 years old. My parent’s bought me any easy bake the oven for Christmas that year. I would bake all sorts of things in that oven, I loved it!!! My dad would eat whatever I made in it whether it was raw in the middle and burned on the edges!! lol… Seem’s to me they didn’t bake to well back then it was 1980, I think??? I grew up in 4-H, we had sheep most of the time. Some years I would take on different project’s like chicken’s, dairy cows, baking, sewing, and gardening. They didn’t have a class for cake decorating when I was in 4-H… I grew up with foster children in my home since I was 8, we always had a lot of kids to feed, so nothing went to waste!!!  My mom and I were always doing different thing’s for the holiday’s and parties, I loved it!!! I learned a lot more cooking and baking skills in Mesa, AZ. We lived there in 1990-1994ish. My parent’s moved every 3 years or so, and no we were not in the Army or anything like that. They just never seemed settled was all. We lived at a children’s home in one of the boys dorm that had 12 boys (we had a separate apartment). I know wow, a lot to deal with!!! They had a big kitchen and dining hall were we would go and eat everyday. My sister and I loved to go down there and help out the cooks, with whatever they were doing. I was hired to be a prep cook and cooked on Sunday’s (for about 150 people, I was 16 then) and when the other cooks wanted or needed a day off. I also started working for an Italian restaurant close to where we lived. First I was a dishwasher then they moved me up to one of the prep cooks. I really liked working there, I learned so much.  I still use some of the recipes that I learned there. In Mesa was where we started cake decorating, my sister wanted to take the classes. I took the first class and thought is was a waste of time. I thought why make the cake so pretty then just eat it??? So I quite and my mom and sister kept up with the classes. I would bake the cakes for them, then they would decorate the cake. My mom starting collecting a lot of cake pans back then. I have all of them now, about 150 or so. I didn’t get really interested in cake decorating until about 1999, my mom was going to get rid of all the pans and I said no let me try taking the classes again and I’ll see what comes of it. I found a wonderful teacher here were I live and I learned a lot from her. I took 6 different classes, starting with the basic’s all the way to fondant and gumpaste ect…

I love cake decorating now! I was trained in the Wilton method of cake decorating, and have been decorating for over 10 years now. I bake for a charity group called Community Cakes, (the website is being worked on) so please have keep checking back for updates!
We bake for foster children, veterans, nursing homes, hospice, and nicu babies ect…

I have a lung and lymph, disease called sarcoidosis, that keeps me home most of the time.

I am a Master Food Preserver/Food Safety Advisor-volunteer with the U of  I.

I am the Superintendent for the Pantry Kitchen area for the Canyon County Fair.

I love the fairs!!! I love all the competitions and I have a wall of ribbons to show for it! My husband call’s it fair fever!!! LOL!! 🙂

Thank you everyone!!!  🙂

 Amanda 🙂
