I starting baking and cooking when I was 5 years old. My parent’s bought me any easy bake the oven for Christmas that year. I would bake all sorts of things in that oven, I loved it!!! My dad would eat whatever I made in it whether it was raw in the middle and burned on the edges!! lol… Seem’s to me they didn’t bake to well back then it was 1980, I think??? I grew up in 4-H, we had sheep most of the time. Some years I would take on different project’s like chicken’s, dairy cows, baking, sewing, and gardening. They didn’t have a class for cake decorating when I was in 4-H… I grew up with foster children in my home since I was 8, we always had a lot of kids to feed, so nothing went to waste!!! My mom and I were always doing different thing’s for the holiday’s and parties, I loved it!!! I learned a lot more cooking and baking skills in Mesa, AZ. We lived there in 1990-1994ish. My parent’s moved every 3 years or so, and no we were not in the Army or anything like that. They just never seemed settled was all. We lived at a children’s home in one of the boys dorm that had 12 boys (we had a separate apartment). I know wow, a lot to deal with!!! They had a big kitchen and dining hall were we would go and eat everyday. My sister and I loved to go down there and help out the cooks, with whatever they were doing. I was hired to be a prep cook and cooked on Sunday’s (for about 150 people, I was 16 then) and when the other cooks wanted or needed a day off. I also started working for an Italian restaurant close to where we lived. First I was a dishwasher then they moved me up to one of the prep cooks. I really liked working there, I learned so much. I still use some of the recipes that I learned there. In Mesa was where we started cake decorating, my sister wanted to take the classes. I took the first class and thought is was a waste of time. I thought why make the cake so pretty then just eat it??? So I quite and my mom and sister kept up with the classes. I would bake the cakes for them, then they would decorate the cake. My mom starting collecting a lot of cake pans back then. I have all of them now, about 150 or so. I didn’t get really interested in cake decorating until about 1999, my mom was going to get rid of all the pans and I said no let me try taking the classes again and I’ll see what comes of it. I found a wonderful teacher here were I live and I learned a lot from her. I took 6 different classes, starting with the basic’s all the way to fondant and gumpaste ect…
